Ich bin Fotografin, Lehrende und Netzwerkerin.
Meine fotografische Laufbahn begann Anfang der 90er Jahre am Berliner Lette-Verein, wo ich das Handwerk von der Pieke gelernt habe und entscheidende Begegnungen für mein späteres Leben und Wirken hatte. Im Anschluss studierte ich Visuelle Kommunikation an der Hochschule der Künste Berlin. Dort entstand meine multimediale Ausstellung über den Club WMF, eine Langzeitdokumentation, die die Clubkultur und das Berlin der 1990er Jahre reflektierte.
Anschließend vertiefte ich mein künstlerisches Studium als Meisterschülerin der Experimentellen Filmgestaltung welches ich mit einer Ausstellung über die sozialistischen Sonderbauten in Berlin-Mitte abschloss und die sich mit Fragen zu politischer Architektur und Stadtplanung, Identität und Verdrängung beschäftigte.
Seit den 1990er Jahren entdecke ich als freie Fotografin für das Meeresmagazin und den Buchverlag von mare, die Küsten und Meere der Welt und erzähle ihre Geschichten in meinen von Landschaften geprägten Serien. Über die Jahre entstanden auch viele Aufträge und Reisereportagen für GEO, Lufthansa Magazin, Stern, Brigitte und viele weitere Publikationen.
Seit 2022 begleite ich die Fotoreisen auf dem mare-Schiff Cape Race in die Arktis. Es geht darum Wissenschaft erlebbar zu machen. Neben den Naturerlebnissen gibt es an Bord Vorträge von Meeresbiolog*innen und Polareisforscher*innen.
Zwischen Praxis und Lehre fühle ich mich zuhause. Von 2003 bis 2008 habe ich selber am Lette-Verein gelehrt und von 2003 bis 2008 die Fotoabteilung geleitet. 2015 wurde ich Professorin für Dokumentarfotografie an der Berliner Technischen Kunsthochschule, von 2017 bis 2023 leitete ich als Dekanin den Fachbereich Art & Design der University of Applied Sciences Europe UE.
Ich gehöre zu den Gründerinnen der Hamburg Portfolio Review, einem Herzensprojekt zur Vernetzung von Talenten mit der Fotobranche weltweit.
Seit 2023 leite ich als Geschäftsführerin den Berufsverband FREELENS, dessen Mitglied ich seit 25 Jahren bin, und seit 2025 engagiere ich mich im Vorstand der FREELENS Foundation Germany e.V.
Ich lebe und arbeite in Hamburg, wo ich Fotografie, Lehre, berufspolitische Arbeit und Netzwerkarbeit miteinander verbinde – immer neugierig auf die Geschichten, die gesehen und erzählt werden wollen.
I am a photographer, educator, and networker.
My photographic career began in the early 1990s at the Lette-Verein in Berlin, where I learned the craft from the ground up and had pivotal encounters that shaped my later life and work. I then studied Visual Communication at the Berlin University of the Arts.
There, I created my multimedia exhibition about the WMF club, a long-term documentary reflecting on club culture and Berlin in the 1990s. Afterwards, I deepened my artistic studies as a master student in Experimental Film, which I concluded with an exhibition on socialist special buildings in Berlin-Mitte, dealing with questions of political architecture and urban planning, identity, and displacement.

Since the 1990s, I have been exploring the coasts and seas of the world as a freelance photographer for mare magazine and its publishing house, telling their stories in my landscape-driven series. Over the years, I have also completed many assignments and travel reportages for GEO, Lufthansa Magazin, Stern, Brigitte, and many other publications.

Since 2022, I have been accompanying the photo expeditions on mare’s ship Cape Race to the Arctic. The aim is to make science tangible. Alongside nature experiences, there are lectures on board given by marine biologists and polar researchers.

I feel comfortable between practice and teaching. From 2003 to 2008, I taught at the Lette-Verein and headed the photography department during that time. In 2015, I was appointed Professor of Documentary Photography at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences of Art, and from 2017 to 2023 I served as Dean of the Faculty of Art & Design at the University of Applied Sciences Europe (UE).

I am one of the founders of the Hamburg Portfolio Review, a heartfelt project to connect emerging talents with the global photography industry.

Since 2023, I have been managing director of the professional association FREELENS, where I have been a member for 25 years. And since 2025, I have also been serving on the board of the FREELENS Foundation Germany e.V.

I live and work in Hamburg, where I combine photography, teaching, political work in the field of photography and networking – always curious about the stories that want to be seen and told.
